Welcome to 2nd Grade
Today I hurry off to school,
To work and learn and play.
I’m in a brand new grade this year,
What a happy day!
Our 2nd graders are looking forward to a busy, fun and successful year! Here is a brief overview:
-
Writing: We are utilizing a Writer’s Workshop format throughout the year. We will begin with small moment personal narratives. Then, we will cover informational, persuasive, realistic fiction, poetry writing, and more.
-
Fundations: We will begin with a reviewing of important skills learned in the Fundations Program. Then, each week and throughout the year, we learn new phonics skills to build word knowledge and fluency.
-
Math: We are exploring different ways to write numbers and how to use place value to find the values of numbers. Throughout the year we will work on addition, subtraction, measurement, geometry and problem-solving skills.
Let’s have a terrific year together!
Meet Our Second Grade Teachers:
Ms. Dalton
Hi, I am Jennifer Dalton, Grade two teacher here at Troy Hills Elementary School. My journey to where I am today started at Kean University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been teaching for "around" 20 years. I LOVE teaching Kindergarten because I enjoy the journey of working with young children and see them progress academically, socially, and emotionally. My goal is to have my students love school and to prepare them for the skills they need to be successful as they approach first grade. When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family and dog Cassie! I like to go to the movies, read, do yoga and visit the beach as much as I can.
Mrs. Weiss
My name is Mrs. Weiss, and I look forward to teaching your child as their 2nd grade teacher! I have taught either 4th or 5th grade at Troy Hills School for the past 17 years. I also have worked as a tutor for both math and writing at multiple levels. Yet, one fun fact is I did spend one special year as a first grade teacher before coming to Troy Hills. My education for both my Bachelor’s Degree and Graduate classes were done through Montclair State University. I believe in teaching the whole child and helping them meet the challenges ahead. I also try to build a love of learning and want my students to do work they can celebrate and be proud of! Personally, I have 3 young boys in elementary school; my twins have started second grade this year! It is my privilege to be a part of this special year in your child’s life as well!
