Kindergarten Curriculum Overview:

Language Arts Overview: Kindergarten students see why it is important to read, read, and read some more! The students are very involved with reading readiness skills and application during Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop.

Mathematics Overview: Building the basic foundation skills by developing number sense. Kindergarten students will understand and apply strategies that allow them to use addition, subtraction, and solve word problems.

Science Overview: We are so excited about the new FOSS program! We began the program talking about the many uses of wood. Kindergarten students are doing many hands on activities to get to know the world around them.

Social Studies Overview: What makes a community? How do I fit in? What are some stories of the past? Your child will grow to understand the benefits and responsibilities of living in a community, while appreciating the differences in others.

Meet Our Kindergarten Teachers:

Mrs. Light

Hi, my name is Karin Light and I am a Kindergarten teacher here at Troy Hills School.  I have been teaching Kindergarten here for the past 16 years. Teaching young children has always been a passion of mine.  Kinders are so much fun!  Seeing the innocence and joy of learning through their eyes is very special. I love to incorporate hands-on activities and centers into my lessons and believe that young children can learn through purposeful play.
I received my bachelors degree from Rutgers University.  I have served as a student teacher mentor, a Parsippany Target Teach Mentor and I am also the Troy Hills School resident teacher mentor.
When I'm not at school I can be found spending time with my family: my husband, 2 children and our shih-tzu Molly! Some of my favorite things are reading, coffee, chocolate, yoga and traveling.

Ms. Dalton

Hi, I am Jennifer Dalton, Kindergarten Teacher here at Troy Hills Elementary School.  My journey to where I am today started at Kean University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education.  I have been teaching for "around" 20 years.  I LOVE teaching Kindergarten because I enjoy the journey of working with young children and see them progress academically, socially, and emotionally.  My goal is to have my students love school and to prepare them for the skills they need to be successful as they approach first grade.  When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family and dog Cassie!  I like to go to the movies, read, do yoga and visit the beach as much as I can.
