5th Grade

Science -

In 5th grade Science, we are using Science Dimensions and FOSS, where we cover 4 main areas of study: Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, and Mixtures and Solutions. Each area allows students to engage, explore, elaborate, and evaluate.

Our new science curriculum, FOSS, encompases a variety of hands-on investigations that students will get to analyze. The first unit we will be covering is Mixtures and Solutions. Throughout these investigations, students will be able to further develop their deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills. Students will also explore technology, engineering and the importance of innovation.

Life Science: ecosystems, reproduction, cells, life cycle of stars, solar system, earth and space

Earth Science: oceas, weather, water cycle, natural resources

Physical Science: solid liquid gas, atoms, properties of matter, motions and forces, and the design process

Teachers Bio's -

Hi, I am Ms. Lusto and I am a 5th grade teacher here at Troy Hills Elementary School. I studied at Montclair State University where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities and a New Jersey Certification in Elementary Education. During my time at MSU, I was a substitute teacher in various school districts. Since graduation, I have been a paraprofessional in Parsippany Troy Hills School District, and now, I am very excited to be teaching 5th grade! My goal is to facilitate a positive learning environment where students feel safe to push themselves and take chances on more challenging tasks. It is important to me that students feel safe and comfortable enough to ask questions and be themselves. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, cooking, DIY projects, and anything outdoors.
